Inspiring Illustrations

It has been awhile since I have done an Inspiring Illustration Post! The illustrations in 'My Little Golden Book of Manners' are done by my absolute favorite...Richard Scarry !!! I plan on doing a big post about him sometime soon because he is just the coolest :) but for now I will just share a few pics of his from this sweet Golden Book.

Peggy Parish is the author of the story, which has a copyright of 1962. She is also the author of the Amelia Bedelia books which I just loved as a child. I also love that the first page acknowledges the 3rd Grade at the Dalton School, New York as 'Consultants' on the book :)

The book basically just gives practical advice on manners and the best way to act in different situations.

I think the Alligator and the Lion are my favorites! Just look how sweet he can make even the most ferocious animals look!

A giraffe in a sailor's suit!? Yes, Please!! ;)  Someday when I have children I think I will hang some of these illustrations in their rooms.

This Weekends Finds

Due to some home renovation projects going on this weekend I really only got to one sale but I got a couple pretty cool things there!

I got a couple of great vintage children's clothing pieces and a sweet little fabric suitcase
This coat is pretty awesome. It is a great tweed in bright colors. The one women at the sale let me know that her sister made this in a high school sewing class at least 35 years ago. It is in great shape and put together extremely well.
This little knit cape is just so sweet and gorgeous
I also got this milk crate, shoe form, glass bowls and another little children's sweater. Not bad for one sale!!

Thrilling Thrift - This weekends finds

Winter in Western PA means a scarcity of Estate and Garage sales. My mom and I (my thrifting partner in crime) were able to find an estate sale here and there this winter but now that spring has come around, the options have started to get better. On Saturday we were able to find several good sales and here is what I got!
These 4 items were picked up at a sale in Blairsville, PA (about 15 minutes from Delmont). A man has been selling items from a large shed in his front yard because he has collected so much over the years. He loves to travel to Peru and raises the money for plane tickets this way. Anyway, I just loved the kitty mail organizer and the world 'calendar' is a classic. The gnome isn't old BUT he is a great addition to my collection AND he lights up!! The man threw him in for free because according to him, it didn't really 'fit' in with his other items  :)
I am super excited about these 2 pieces because I plan on turning them in to Terrariums!! Both are great vintage pieces that will look so great turned in to little gardens :)
This is an old Levi's shirt. A find at a church tag sale.
These vintage kids books were all picked up at the church tag sale too. I LOVE vintage children's books if you haven't already guessed by past posts ;)
And these 2 pretty floral scarves that I have big plans for (see last post!)
I am getting super excited for garage sale season!! Have you found any goodies lately at estate or garage sales?

Thrilling Thrift...Vintage Children's Clothing!

IMG_0654
Wanted to share this quick pic of the total SCORE I made over the weekend. I bought this huge lot of vintage children's clothing for a mere $30!! These pictures don't even begin to accurately portray the amazing pieces in this bunch! Most pieces seem to be from the 50s and 60s and except for a few minor stains here and there, they are in excellent condition!!
It pays to check out your local Craigslist pretty frequently, people!! The person I bought the lot from said his brother is a bit of a 'collector' and he was helping him sell some things. The brother acquired these amazing pieces from the estate sale of a hoarder.
I am beyond excited about these sweet kid's clothes and can't wait to share more! Be on the lookout for more pics here on my blog and also in my Etsy shop - Hollie Would Vintage!!

Thrilling Thrift Finds!

On one of my many 'treasure hunts' I came across this awesome gnome music box. I realize I haven't shared my gnome obsession on the blog yet but I.AM.IN LOVE. with all things gnome. Gnomes are still cool, right?! :) I will definitely share my gnome collection here soon!
Anywho.... this is one of my favorite gnome finds to date! It was made in 1979 by Gorham Unieboek.

Isn't he just the cutest?? He plays a lovely little melody as well. When taking these photos I realized he didn't have as much visibility in my house as he deserved.... I will be fixing that just as soon as I find the perfect place for him - away from curious kitty paws!! :)

Thrilling Thrift Finds!

This past Saturday morning I was out on my usual thrifting adventures with my mama. Since it is winter here in Western PA, there aren't as many garage or estate sales going on so pickins are slim this time of year! :) We walked into an estate sale and on the first floor I had kind of already written it off as not that great of a sale. BUT THEN I walked upstairs into a room filled with shoes, purses, and clothing!! There were more shoes than anything and as you can see I walked away with quite a few pairs! Watch for them all in my Etsy Shop soon!

Another Kitty Cat Find

On my Thrifting adventures this weekend I found ANOTHER lovely kitty kat treasure.... These embroidered pillows are just amazing and I was so happy to give them a home for $3 a piece :) I was never a 'cat person' as I have mentioned before and would normally not even look twice at any 'cat' related item but since the BF and I got a cat I find myself noticing home decor pieces more while out thrifting. When I go thrifting it is for Hollie Would Vintage for the most part....but these lovely pillows might just have to stay with me...at least for awhile :)

Collections

Every so often I am going to share one of my MANY collections. I think like many other vintage lovers/crafty people, I find many things interesting and like to collect a lot of them...lol. It is just so hard to pass up a perfectly beautiful old camera or kitchy figurine!! That is why it is good for me to have an Etsy shop, so I can purchase these things and be able to enjoy them a little bit but then be able to share them with someone else. The first collection I want to share is my vintage camera collection.

I have been collecting vintage cameras for probably close to 3 years now. I have amassed quite the collection. I got them all together recently because I realized it was time to let some go. But OF COURSE I had to photograph them all together first!

I just LOOOVEE all their different shapes, colors and sizes. I have been a lover of photography ever since middle school and just love having these old pieces displayed in my home as a reminder of a very amazing art form.

*The cameras that 'didn't make the cut' are starting to appear in my Etsy shop. Check them out!!

Pretty Vintage Things

Pretty things to display :) I just think the teacups are the coolest!
